A combination of things I can't be bothered telling everyone in person, and things I want to tell everyone whether they want to hear it or not.

Fettered Genius

Well, the holiday is over. Back to the grindstone :(

Back when I was a free spirit unburdened by the weight of the world, I got given some of those strips of paper you make stars out of(*), and was so inspired by the end result I made a necklace:

It never occured to me to make beads out of origami before.

This in turn made me go out shopping for supplies to make the necklace better (it was originally on fishing wire and held together with knots) at which I point I discovered that rather than paying $4 for 3m of "tiger tail" plain nylon coated wire from a craft shop, I could pay $3.50 for 10m of black nylon coated wire plus several crimping beads (To hold stuff in place) from the fishing section of K-mart. Then I got all inspired and went to my local bead shop ("Benjamins beads" in Mt Lawley. They rock) where I bought a clasp and a box to sort all the beads I've accumalted over the past fifteen years as someone who loves beads but didn't know what to do with them, and finally had a go at wire crochet:

And now I am happy :) Though I feel like going to the bead shop and making more necklaces and I really don't have time :(. Oh well. I might later anyway, but only crochet at night after a long day working. Like I am with this blog!

(*)By Wanda, the penfriend who also got me an artists model thing and for whom I made the Klein-bottle hat. She's cool :) I also gave her the first necklace as a thankyou for being so inspiring. And as an easy birthday present...

That metal necklace is pretty damn cool, and the beady one's nifty. I've never thought of beaderising paper stars (but mine are stuck to my moniter, anyway...). So what's your next cool crotcheted work going to be?

Thanks very much for this free wire crocheted necklace pattern. I've been dying to have a go and couldn't find the method. I'll let you know how it goes.

That crocheted necklace is very pretty. I tried my hand at wire crochet last night but I'm not sure I'm happy with the results.

Have you ever experimented with Beadalon coated wire for crochet?

You're likely to never read this (and I couldn't find your blog) but: thanks! And no, I haven't tried beadalon.

To anyone else: If you want to contact me/see what I'm up to, I reccomend my livejournal:
