A combination of things I can't be bothered telling everyone in person, and things I want to tell everyone whether they want to hear it or not.

Hello from Melbourne!

Don't have long before the next talk, just doing this becuase I can :) Conference is great fun, though 90% of the talks are on semigroups and none on groups. Hmmph. My talk is after lunch, scary! Haven't bought anything yet though spent a while windowshopping. Sharing a room with Cheryl is actually ok. Minotaur (biig s.f. bookshop) didn't have the Lois McMaster Bujold I want :( Better go see if theres free bickkies for morning tea!

Off to Melbourne!!

Tomorrow morning I and Cam follow in the footsteps of (it seems) the entire state of Western Australia and visit sunny/rainy/sunny Melbourne till next Tuesday. Just so noone tries ringing to say "hi" and gets offended when we don't ring back :) And now, off to the ballet!

Unisfa Designs

I was thinking about unisfa t-shirt designs (after being at the last committee meeting) and had the idea of doing something with the name itself, since it's such a random, funny looking collection of letters it suits being abstracted to an aesthetically pleasing rather than 100% legible design.

My first idea:

My second idea:

(It's the same if you rotate it 180 degrees. Perfect for handstands!) This one needs betterifying but I'm not sure how. Every time I make the 'S' look less dorky the 'i' looks less 'i'-y.

It's bigger than me!

Here's a photo of my antibiotics: Aren't they HUGE? Well, yes, I do have somewhat small hands but still...they're nearly as big as the microwave!

Well what else do you put in them?

I was at the Subiaco Woolies today and honest to goodness they had this bin. Surely I'm not the only person who has this thought..

Its actually for cat food.

In other news, my packed-to-the-brim busy month was made even more exciting by a nasty cold which meant I had to cancel a bunch of stuff I was supposed to do which was awkward and annoying. On the plus side, I discovered (just as I was getting better) that watching Buffy on the laptop in bed is great. Yes, I have gotten into Buffy seven years after everyone else. I was into Red Dwarf in 1990! So nerr! Its sad to think its going to get all angsty and crap, season 2 is so cool. Oh well.

I've discovered (quite a week for them isn't it?) that the kind of jewllry I have desperately wanted to know how to make for ages is wire crochet. As in you use crochet needles and everything! Now there's a skill I never thought I'd regret not having. Yes, Phlebus, this does mean I'm going to be bugging you with noob crochet questions.

Not long till Melbourne! Eep! Better write my speech!

Because anything is more fun than preparing for my lecture tomorrow

Every time Tommo or Oliver mentions "Oliver: King of Metal" I get this picture in my head, and so have decided to share it with you all: There really should be portentious lightening etc but I can't be bothered.

My main "artistic" obsession at the moment is trying to work out what a wormhole would look like as you approached and passed through it. I can't find picture of this anywhere, but have realised this is becuase it's really hard.

I should get back to preparing lecture notes now, I suppose *sigh*
